light is dark / dark is light
they are four individual pieces...but one as a whole.  they correspond to each other and can be placed side by side or in one group.
follow a triadic color scheme (primary, secondary, tertiary) and work their way around the color wheel.  the lightest colors in each scheme represent the shadows, and the darkest colors represent the source of light.

nature's 'paint by numbers' following the grain of the wood
they are four individual pieces, but can be placed together in different configurations to align the revealed wood bands.
a play with traditional tri-color schemes whereby one member of each classically harmonious triad is removed .  the jarring color contrast is tempered by the more organic nature of the wood grain resulting in an energizing visual effect.
• the piece(s) evolve through application and mixture of media gaining thickness/opacity...also becoming more or less free flowing, not constrained by the "direction" of the grain of wood.

nature's paint by numbers following the grain of the wood/pastel series
 they are four individual pieces.
• quadratic color, split complementary, warm and cool schemes.  paying homage to the wood they were made with, the paints were applied by direction of the grain itself. the colors were toned and sanded smooth to achieve a harmonious palette evoking ripples in a body of water.

spirals in nature/down to our core
• individual pieces corresponding to each other through the evolution of added/subtracted color and medium.
• reminiscent of nature with a fairly monochromatic sandalwood earth tone the pieces evolve through the process of adding and removing medium to produce an increasing depth of field, while paying homage to spirals that can been seen in nature from our DNA to the galaxy itself.

how do colors make you feel/all the same
• they are individual pieces.
• color symbolism...there is diversity in the meaning or emotions of colors, setting aside any cultural or societal meaning and their associations.  meant to evoke more visceral emotion, feeling, and/or meaning...breaking it down to the core of the basic biological principle.
